1/2 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup milk
Step 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
Step 2. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Gradually add to butter mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.
Step 3. Divide batter evenly between pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
